Week 3 – Green Beans

October 22nd

Main Thing …

Most of us remember in grade 3 getting to plant a green bean in a Styrofoam cup and watering it and watching it grow.  It was so cool to see that seed turn into a plant.  As you think of the things that influence you and how you spend your free time, you need to think about what seeds are being planted in your heart and what they are going to produce.

Scratch the Surface…

  • High’s and lows
  • Can you recall planting the green beans in grade 3 … did yours die?

Dig a Little Deeper…

  • What are some of your favorite ways to spend your free time?
  • Refer to Galatians 6:7-10 … what are some differences between sowing to please the flesh and sowing to please the Spirit?
  • What kind of harvest do you think you would reap if you sow in the flesh?
  • What kind of harvest do you think you would reap if you sow in the spirit?

  • You could share about what you do to “sow to please the spirit”
  • You could talk about how this is a battle every day and what you do to fight it

  • Pray with your group that God would help us in this area
  • In what ways could you use your free time to sow good seeds?

Key Scriptures …

Galatians 6:7-10

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.  Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.  Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

Psalm 19:9-10

The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.
