Parents,

Christmas is a crazy time of year with the parties, and the shopping and the lists of people to buy gifts for and the eggnog and the sugar and spice and everything nice.  Looking back at Jesus’ birth we see that 3 wise men brought baby Jesus gifts to honour Him as the King.  As we are in the middle of this Christmas season, we really need to learn what kind of gifts God wants us to give and what attitude he calls us to have.  There are a ton of things that we can learn form this story of the 3 wise men.  Please take a look at some of the things that we discussed in small groups this week.

Goals…

  • To study the story of the 3 wise men who brought gifts to Jesus and to understand that we have something to give as well
  • To remind the students that they have the ability to “give” to others in need

Conversation Starters…

  • High’s and lows of the week
  • Was there anything that stuck out to you about tonight’s message that you learned or had questions about?
  • What are some things that you hope to get this year for Christmas?

Dig a Little Deeper…

  • Is giving really better than receiving?
    • Agree or disagree?
      • Back up your answer … why?
  • Describe in your own words what it means to “serve”
  • Share an experience where you “served” someone
  • Why do you think that God wants us to “serve” others?
    • What could we possibly learn from doing that?
    • What could we possibly benefit from that?
    • What could someone else possibly get out of that?
  • What are some things that could hold you back from serving others?
    • How do you move beyond those things?
    • What is the best way to put those things behind you in order to be able to serve God and give?

Personal…

  • You could share about a time that you “served” someone and what that meant to you and why it was meaningful

Applications…

  • Is there anyone that you can think of right now who is in “need” and is there a way that you could help them?
  • Is there something that you can think of that you could do over the holidays to serve someone?

Prayer…

  • Pray for people in need
  • Pray that God would help us to not be selfish

Scriptures…

“they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.”

Matt 2:9-11
