Sr High – OUTLOUD Week 3
Wednesday May 18 2011
In Luke 7:36-50, we see 2 characters emerge, and they are extremely different in many ways. We looked at how each of them related to Jesus. The Pharisee was very proud and unexpressive in his relationship with Jesus, while the sinful woman was very expressive. Jesus made a spectacle of one character, and honored the other one. As we looked at each character, we were able to learn some lessons about how to live our relationship with Jesus OUTLOUD. Here are some of the questions that the youth may have discussed in their small groups …
1) Please take a look at this parable and discuss it …
Luke 7:41-43
41 “Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii,[a] and the other fifty. 42 Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?”
43 Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.”
“You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.
- Do you think that this parable means that different people within Christianity have different levels of sin?
- Does that mean that people who sin more, are able to love more?
- Does that mean that I need to experience more sin?
- If the answer is no, then what is the right explanation?
2) Compare the “Pharisee” and the “Sinful woman” in Luke 7:36-50
- Describe each of their characters
- Which one expressed their love to Jesus more?
- Why do you think that they expressed themselves in such different ways?
- Are there any attitudes in your own life that hold you back from expressing your love to Jesus and living your faith Outloud?
- Are there any lessons that you can learn from each of these characters?
