Review for Parents – April 13
This week we continued our new teaching series called “Unlikely Heroes”
A few things we talked about:
1. Why Jesus’ kingdom is upside down from the world.
2. Often we think of ourselves of insignificant and that we aren’t good enough to do great things for God.
3. The Bible is full of people who were unqualified and insignificant and God used them to do amazing things that changed the world.
4. God can use us to do great things, but we must rely on Him for everything.
5. We’ve been focusing the last few weeks on Moses and David.
Verse:
In Psalm 18, we see David’s total reliance on God, “2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. 3 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.”
2 Corinthians 12:9-10
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
Teaching in a sentence (or maybe 2)–
The world says success is about reaching the top, gaining power and wealth. Jesus’ Kingdom is about allowing God to use us in the midst of our weakness and humanity. God uses normal people to do amazing things that change the world. We must rely on him for everything.
Questions to talk about at home with your kids
- Why is Jesus’ Kingdom different than the world? What are some of the differences we see around us?
- Why does God use normal people to do world-changing things?
- Why is it important to rely on God for everything in our daily lives?
- What are some of the ways God used Moses and David. Where they superstars from the beginning?
Review
Worship – Olivia lead worship. Some kid let off a stink bomb, really funny but the worship set suffered. Ahh Youth ministry J
Vibe – Really exciting to see kids continue to come out strong right into spring, as sports are starting etc.
Leaders – They are growing in their skills in leading Jr. high youth. Small groups are getting large so there is a need to split groups into 2-3 groups. This could affect your child’s small group. Any questions or concerns let me know!
Upcoming
